1912 FORD MODEL T
TOURING CAR
ON DISPLAY AT LONG-LEWIS FORD
Price In 1911 $690 Serial # 130868 Weight 1,200 lbs. Production Total 50,598
This vehicle was built during Long-Lewis Ford’s first year in the automotive business in 1911. Long-Lewis became associated with Ford Motor Company as one of its "distributors". (There were no Ford franchised dealers until Long-Lewis became one of the first in 1915.)
With only 2,220 actual miles, this was a National First Prize Winner as one of the finest examples left of that era. This auto was meticulously restored by Ted Aschman, former President of the Model T Ford Club of America and purchased from the Tommy Turner Collection in Magnolia, Ky.
Other vehicles produced during that time: Torpedo Runabout, Runabout, Town Car, Delivery Car, and a Coupe. All cars were painted a very dark blue. Delivery cars came in red (or unpainted) with the standard blue fenders. (Fender color is listed as "black" in the 1912 Factory Facts booklet; both blue and black seem to have been used, based on existing, original cars.)
The chassis and body came in by rail to downtown Bessemer. They were put together at the rail yard and driven back to Long-Lewis Hardware located in downtown Bessemer.
Since 1887 Long-Lewis has been in the transportation business. Before 1911, Long-Lewis sold Studebaker buggies.
