Best Car Ever
by Wood on Tuesday, November 27, 2012
This is an excellent car. My friend has one with 340K on it.... It drives like a Lexus... I should know because I own one of those too... I would buy a new one in a heartbeat. Sadly they stopped making them. - 3.0
Nice car, yet falls short of expectations
by Discerning1 on Tuesday, November 06, 2007
First of all, we like our 2004 SLE V6 Coupe which we purchased new in April 2004. The styling and interior quality are what attracted us to the car. It is almost completely free of rattles after 35,000 miles. We find it is a good highway car. And we are pleased with how well the car is holding its value. There are a few things that annoy us about the car: the paint chips way too easily (Arctic Frost White), and the automatic transmission is very sluggish in how it shifts - so much so that it really takes away from the performance of the V6 engine. If GM or Ford built such a sloppy transmission, they would be ridiculed. The dealership has been unresponsive about the transmission except to say the new ones are better. (Nice try sales people!) The tires had to be replaced at 33,000 miles; we have been told we are lucky they lasted that long! Both the new tires and the old have been difficult to balance. There is vibration above 65 MPH. And there is more road noise coming from the trunk and rear seat area than is acceptable in any car at this price point. At 6-feet-2, the moon roof really makes head room tight. Our other vehicle, a 2005 Chev Silverado pickup, has a better shifting transmission, better paint, less road noise, and no tire/wheel vibrations. This is my third Toyota, and, frankly, I expected better. Yet, the styling, interior appointments and reliability are such that we still like the car despite the issues identified. - 5.0
14 1/2 years new and still going strong
by Auto Enthusiast on Saturday, September 28, 2019
We have enjoyed driving and owning this car for 14 1/2 years. It has not been a problem at all. Changed the battery, oil, update the tires, put gas in it and go. Very dependable and a joy to drive. I wish Toyota was producing and selling the Solara today, I would certainly buy a newer version of the same car. Though I have owned many different automobiles and brands over the last 48 years (18 in all), the Toyotas in my life have been the absolute best and most dependable.
